Low vitamin D levels are very frequent among kidney transplant recipients (KTRs), especially in the early posttransplantation period. Vitamin D status is usually assessed by measuring the serum concentration of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD).vitamin D levels should be routinely monitored post-transplant and low levels need to be treated with oral supplementation. Further explorations are needed to determine the optimal dose and duration of vitamin D treatment.
